The Best 3-Ingredient Peanut Butter Cups (Gluten-Free)

These Peanut Butter Cups are the simplest, most addicting no-bake dessert. Like Reese’s cups, but better. Plus, they’re made of just THREE simple ingredients!

Lately, I’ve been enjoying one (or two) of these peanut butter cups almost every night! I love having these chocolatey, peanut buttery treats to have on hand for a quick and easy dessert. They’re literally the easiest dessert you will ever make. And not to mention, they’re SO delicious. They also don’t require any baking so they’re honestly fool-proof! Follow my simple recipe below and you’ll have homemade, better-than-Reese’s peanut butter cups in no time. Trust me when I tell you that you’ll struggle to wait for them to freeze before diving in. Every bite of that sweet, chocolatey goodness is just so satisfying.

As a bonus, these treats are also so much healthier than typical, heavily processed peanut butter cups that you buy from the store! Did you know that the infamous Reese’s cups contain 17 ingredients?! I can’t think of 17 different ingredients that I would put into any dessert, let alone something as simple as a peanut butter cup. My recipe for peanut butter cups is so simple, yet SO tasty, and you can truly feel good about eating them.

Ingredients in Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups:

  • Dark Chocolate: I prefer to make mine using dark chocolate, simply because I love the flavor. But you can opt for any type of chocolate you like here! I have made them with both milk and white chocolate. Or, use dairy-free chocolate like this.
  • Coconut Oil: I typically use refined coconut oil because it has a lighter coconut flavor than the unrefined version. You cannot taste it in the cups! The coconut oil is what helps the chocolate melt smoothly and harden fully.
  • Peanut Butter: It’s all about that creamy peanut butter filling. My all-time favorite peanut butter to use is Smucker’s Natural Creamy Peanut Butter.
  • Pro tip: Top your cups with flakey sea salt for an added depth of flavor. I know it may sound strange, but the sea salt actually helps bring out the sweetness of the chocolate! It’s my take on the classic salty/sweet combination, and it’s an irresistible flavor combo that you don’t want to pass up.

Chocolatey, peanut buttery, sweet, and salty. Does it get any better than that? Be sure to tag me on Instagram or Facebook if you make these. I’d love to see your creations!

Equipment

  • Muffin tin
  • Cupcake liners

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1 ½ tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 cup natural peanut butter, divided
  • coarse sea salt, optional, for topping

Instructions

Prepare your pan.

  • Using a muffin tin, line each mold with paper cupcake liners or parchment paper.

Melt chocolate.

  • In a microwave-safe dish, combine chocolate chips and coconut oil. Microwave, stirring every 30 seconds until melted.

Assemble.

  • Pour about ½ tablespoon of melted chocolate into each cupcake liner. You just need enough to cover the bottom of the liner!
  • Freeze for 5 minutes or until chocolate is hardened.
  • Remove tray from freezer, and spoon about 1 tsp of peanut butter on top of each chocolate layer. Top the peanut butter with remaining melted chocolate.
  • Sprinkle the top of each cup with flakey sea salt if desired (I highly recommend it!). Place tray back in the freezer and chill for 10 more minutes or until hardened. Enjoy!
