- 1 tbsp coconut oil
- ½ cup white onion, chopped
- 1 tbsp mined garlic
- ¾ cup tomato paste
- 1 cup water
- 4 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- ¼ cup apple cider
- ½ cup coconut aminos
- 1 tbsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp mustard powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 2 tbsp date syrup, optional, or 1/3 cup chopped dates
In a medium-sized sauce pan, melt coconut oil over medium heat. Add onion and garlic and cook until softened, about 3 minutes.
Add tomato paste, water, apple cider, apple cider vinegar and coconut aminos to the sauce pan. Stir to combine. Once well combined, add remaining ingredients.
Turn heat to medium low and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes until slightly thickened. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.
Carefully transfer sauce to your blender or food processor (it will be hot!). Blend until smooth, about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
Use immediately, or let cool at room temperature before transferring to a glass jar. Store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
