Equipment

  • Blender or food processor
  • Medium saucepan

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • ½ cup white onion, chopped
  • 1 tbsp mined garlic
  • ¾ cup tomato paste
  • 1 cup water
  • 4 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup apple cider
  • ½ cup coconut aminos
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp mustard powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tbsp date syrup, optional, or 1/3 cup chopped dates

Instructions

  • In a medium-sized sauce pan, melt coconut oil over medium heat. Add onion and garlic and cook until softened, about 3 minutes.
  • Add tomato paste, water, apple cider, apple cider vinegar and coconut aminos to the sauce pan. Stir to combine. Once well combined, add remaining ingredients.
  • Turn heat to medium low and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes until slightly thickened. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.
  • Carefully transfer sauce to your blender or food processor (it will be hot!). Blend until smooth, about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  • Use immediately, or let cool at room temperature before transferring to a glass jar. Store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
